While choosing a flattering dress is important for an evening out sipping cocktails with friends, hair and make-up options are also vital to get that perfect finish. We spoke to some of the U.K.'s top hair experts for their advice on how to style your tresses for a night on the town.

Prep, prep, prep

Getting your hair ready to be styled is vital, according to Suzie McGill, international artistic director and Owner of Rainbow Room International in Uddingston, Glasgow. "Styling your hair for any special event or cocktail night out can be challenging but preparation can make it a much easier task," Suzie told Cover Media. "Starting out with a good base is key and it is important to blow-dry your hair properly and keep the style you want to achieve in mind while doing so. For example, if you want a sleek look try not to add extra volume and body. Another top tip of mine would be to opt for a messy/undone finish as it is easier to style and it will be less obvious if you have made any mistakes."

Practice makes perfect

Andrew Collinge, Celebrity Hairdresser and Owner of CO by Andrew Collinge and Andrew Collinge Hairdressing reiterated the need to practice a 'do before the big day in order to get it just how you want it.

"Always practice your hairstyle at least once before," he stated. "This way you are familiar with how to create the look and you will have a better idea of how you prefer it to look."

Style it up

Then it's time to choose which style you want. Karen Brown, Owner of Hair by JFK, explained: "For a cocktail night out, I love a straight, sleek look. For this look it's important that your locks are oozing with health and shine, so try to use deep conditioning treatments a few times a week to keep hair looking its best." Karen advises using flat irons on the locks to make it super straight, before using a gel, like Schwarzkopf's got2b Glam Force Spray Gel to slick the hair back off the face.

If you want something a bit more volumised, Andrew suggests going for a bouncy blow-dry. "Using a blowdry lotion like CO by Andrew Collinge Blow Dry Lotion, will give your hair more body and allow it to hold its style better," he explained. "Once your hair has been blow dried, I would run a curling iron over some sections of your hair to add more bounce and ensure your style lasts all day." Finish the look with firm hold hairspray.Read more at:backless formal dresses | one shoulder formal dresses
